Next month would be the main event of the heavyweight title fight between Daniel Cormier vs Derrick Lewis. This fight was a big surprise for the fans because of the short notice. Just a few moments ago Cormier announced that after March 2019 he would no longer fight on MMA rings. Moreover, his fight with the wrestling superstar, Brock Lesnar, has been decided for early 2019.
Cormier is an excellent fighter, to be able to hold two titles from two different weight classes, his ability and technique couldn’t be taken lightly by anyone. DC got his light heavyweight title after winning over Stipe Miocic in UFC 226; this made him the second person to achieve multiple titles. Of course, the same rules apply to anyone; it means he’s going to be stripped from one of his titles, just like McGregor.
The titles don’t matter to Cormier; rather, he’s got a very important decision to make once the fight Daniel Cormier vs Derrick Lewis is over. As we all know that Cormier has announced his retirement in March 2019, which is roughly less than six months from now. This retirement is not something that he had come up suddenly; he always has this plan to retire from MMA once he hits his 40, which is on this upcoming March. If we count from the days left, Cormier could only fight optimally for two more fights after UFC 230. These two fights could be a problem, or a blessing, which is depending on Cormier’s point of view. During his career in UFC, he lost twice to Jones. Every fighter would want a chance to prove that he is better than the others.
Moreover, the two losses would leave a considerable “stain” in his career in UFC. At least he has to get the chance to fight and probably win the bout with a fighter who’s beaten him twice. But again, fighting is not just about fame, and when we are talking about Lesnar, we are talking about quite a sum of money here.

Cormier could walk away with tons of cash after his fight with Lesnar, but on the other side, he still has something to do with his record before retirement. Cormier has said it himself that by doing his retirement this early, he would have less fight camp. Thus he doesn’t need to beat up himself so bad. He would prefer to fight Jones before his retirement and walk away with a victory in his retirement. On the other side, the paycheck for fighting Lesnar is not something that could be simply ignored. Cormier said that his fight with Lesnar would be financially beneficial for him, but he has to discuss things with his wife first before getting into any decisions.
Looking at the odds, in this match of Daniel Cormier vs Derrick Lewis, Lewis is the underdog with -600 for Cormier and +450 for him. But still, fighting is not just about the odds, but rather the skills and ability of each fighter, of course with a little bit of luck. No matter how much the odds is, if Cormier loses this time, he gets more complicated things to choose. Let’s enjoy his upcoming fights before his retirement.
